Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the application of Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means Universal Life Force Energy). Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of healing through direct application of Chi.

Sessions can also be done by proxy, that is, you do not need to be physically present when the session is being performed.

Reiki Credentials

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the application of Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means Universal Life Force Energy). Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of healing through direct application of Chi.

Reiki is capable of healing anything because it works at very fundamental levels of reality. The limits to Reiki seem to be in the recipients willingness to cast off old habits and patterns, to accept change and to accept healing.

At the level where Reiki functions, anything can be changed because all is fluid-like and is very malleable. Emotional difficulties are just as healable as physical ones since emotional issues are even more directly present in the energy structures.

The way we acquire deviations from our ideal form is to accept limitations into our life. Most of this comes from early childhood because that is the phase of life where we are the most open and inquisitive about life. A limitation may be a parent yelling "BE QUIET!!" enough times that the child learns to not speak. These limitations are behavior patterns, eating patterns, physical limitations, imagined physical limitations, psychological, mental, or emotional ways of being, living, expressing or loving that is not in alignment with our personal highest expression.

In any healing the goal is to find the limitation, recognize the pattern, recognize where it came from, and let it go. Reiki accomplishes this by providing the recipient enough energy to step above (metaphorically) to see all that and have the courage to let go. This usually does not happen consciously as a result of Reiki, but sometimes it does happen that Reiki gives the recipient the conscious awareness of the pattern and recognizing where it came from.

By receiving a one-hour session of Reiki, one physiologically attains many of the benefits equivalent to three to four hours sleep, such as increased oxygen supply to the blood and cells. This clinical observation, combined with the meditative state, makes Reiki a most effective natural stress reliever.

Regular use of Reiki leads to an increase in general vitality and well-being and a sense of inner peace. It greatly accelerates and promotes the healing process and regeneration of tissue, and is capable of improving the quality of one's life to an amazing degree.

A Reiki treatment usually lasts between sixty and ninety minutes. The Reiki practitioner places his hands upon the person to be healed with the intent for healing to occur, and then the energy begins flowing. The energy manages its own flow to and within the recipient. It draws through the healer exactly that amount of energy which the recipient needs. All this happens without direct conscious intervention by the healer.

The Reiki practitioner places his/her hands gently and passively on different locations on the body. Each position is held for at least three minutes. Reiki is different from traditional massage because the person may remain fully clothed. Unlike massage, Reiki does not require any form of manipulation of tissue or muscles so the hands remain still.

It is common for the person being treated to experience sensations such as warmth or tingling flowing from the Reiki practitioner's hands. Most people report entering a very deep state of relaxation. Those familiar with meditation say they enter a deep meditative state. The mind calms, the breathing slows down, and a feeling of well-being and centred-ness and a better sense of perspective is attained.

In the two decades since Reiki Masters have been actively initiating practitioners in the west, there have been no reported cases of negative effects from Reiki.

There are a large number of cases where people have observed what at first appears to be negative effects. People with no understanding of the physiological healing processes of the body can misinterpret what they experience. When the body is undergoing a healing process, there can be short term effects which cause some discomfort.

For example, a person with an arthritic joint can have an increase of pain after the first few Reiki treatments. The Reiki will be increasing the circulation of blood to a joint that has had poor circulation for a number of years. The sudden increase in circulation can be painful at first. The end results will be great!

People with a great deal of accumulated stress or emotional blocks can find everything stirred up at first with treatments as their body starts to process the effects of the Reiki. Cancer patients often experience an increase in pain in the area of the tumor for the first few treatments.
